This week’s photo comes from December of 2013. While walking along the waterfront in Charlotte Amalie on the island of St. Thomas in the US Virgin Islands, we happened upon a harbor in an area called Frenchtown while looking for a pizza place called Pie Whole.
While taking a moment to rest and enjoy another view of the harbor, we noticed a large and proud iguana hanging on the rocks and soaking in the sun.
With a perfect photo opportunity in front of us we started snapping photos with our iPhones and our Canon Powershot G12. After locking down perfect Instagram fodder, we started walking in closer to the iguana to find the perfect angle. I walked and zoomed closer to the subject until the perfect photo was in my G12 viewfinder. The result is our photo of the week. The Instagram version also turned out quite well, although with the iPhone camera we had a hard time getting as close and taking in all of the detail.
While the Instagram detail looks fine in in square form, it would not make for a very good print. The photo of the week would look great blown up in its 8.9 Megapixel glory.
The Cruise port in Charlotte Amalie is covered with those buggers! very photogenic and not afraid of people at all.
