Way back in 2016, Hawaiian Airlines was the official airlines of Disney’s Moana. Naturally, with the second installment coming to theaters soon, Hawaiian is reprising that role. In celebration of this, Hawaiian debuts Moana 2 jets, along with a new sweepstakes in which five lucky winners will receive 500,000 HawaiianMiles.
As I mentioned recently, Hawaiian Airlines and Alaska Airlines are still separate airlines that will continue to do their own thing for at least another year-ish. This means that, yes, Hawaiian will still run its own promotions and giveaways. That why they’re now giving away 500,000 HawaiianMiles to celebrate as Hawaiian debuts Moana 2 jets ahead of the movie’s launch is less than a month.
Hawaiian Debuts Moana 2 Jets
Disney’s Moana 2, starring Hawai’i’s own Auli’i Cravalho and Dwanye “The Rock” Johnson, debuts in theaters on November 27, 2024. To commemorate this special occasion, Hawaiian Airlines and the Walt Disney Company are teaming up again to feature special liveried jets. And, in a recent email and social media campaign, Hawaiian debuts Moana 2 jets.
Like the last time Hawaiian did this, three aircraft will feature the special liveries, two of which were covered in their announcement video. However, unlike last time, they won’t all be Airbus A330s. No, this time, the liveries will appear on an A330, an A321neo, and a Boeing 717-200. For those of you wanting to track these birds to photograph them, the registration numbers are:
- A330: N381HA Hokūle’a
- A321neo: N208HA Koa
- Boeing 717:
N476HA ‘ElepaioN494HA Koa’e Kea
Similarly to the original Moana livery, the new ones feature large graphics of Moana, Maui, and a smattering of supporting characters. However, this time around, they have them “interacting” with various elements of the existing Hawaiian Air livery, including Pua appearing on the winglets of the two Airbuses.
What you won’t find this time around, though, is decals on the inside of the aircraft.
To commemorate that Hawaiian debuts Moana 2 jets, they’re currently holding the Navigate Your Own Adventure Sweepstakes. As mentioned earlier, the grand prize is 500,000 HawaiianMiles. Moreover, one grand prize winner will be selected from each of the five prize regions, which includes the United States, Australia, Japan, Korea, and Aotearoa (New Zealand).
Better yet, unlike past sweepstakes from Hawaiian Airlines, you don’t need a social media profile to enter. Instead, all you have to do is visit a dedicated hawaiianairlines.com page and fill out and submit the entry form. That’s it.
The entry period began at 7:00 am HST on Monday, October 28, and will close at 11:59 pm HST on November 30, 2024. Limit one entry per person. The winners will be selected at 9 am HST on December 5, 2024. For complete sweepstakes rules, please visit hawaiianairlines.com.
Where Can 500,000 HawaiianMiles Take You?
While I usually cover what you can do with your miles whenever Hawaiian holds one of these sweepstakes, this time is different. After all, with the ability to transfer your HawaiianMiles to Alaska Mileage Plan, winning the sweepstakes celebrating that Hawaiian debuts Moana 2 jets could take you even farther now. Here are a couple of examples.
Roundtrip from Honolulu to Tokyo Haneda
- Mileage Plan via JAL Business Class: 120,000 miles
- Mileage Plan via JAL Main Cabin: 60,000 miles
- HawaiianMiles on Hawaiian Business Class:130,000 miles
- HawaiianMiles on Hawaiian Main Cabin: 80,000 miles (70k for cardholders)
- HawaiianMiles on JAL Business Class: 150,000 miles
- HawaiianMiles on JAL Main Cabin: 80,000 miles
Roundtrip from Honolulu to London Heathrow
- Mileage Plan via American/British Airways Business Class: 170,000 miles
- Mileage Plan via American/British Airways Main Cabin: 95,000 miles
- HawaiianMiles via Virgin Atlantic Upper Class
- Honolulu to West Coast: 80,000 miles
- West Coast to London: 320,00 miles
- Total: 400,000 miles
- HawaiianMiles via Virgin Atlantic Main Cabin:
- Honolulu to West Coast: 40,000 miles (35k miles for cardholders)
- West Coast to London: 160,000 miles
- Total: 200,000 miles
Roundtrip from Honolulu to New York:
- Mileage Plan First Class: 202,000 miles
- Mileage Plan Main Cabin: 50,000 miles
- HawaiianMiles on First Class: 80,000 miles
- HawaiianMiles on Hawaiian Main Cabin: 60,000 miles
It’s worth noting that the above prices represents the lowest possible price you’ll find. Both Alaska and Hawaiian have tiered pricing, which can dramatically increase the cost of the award flights. For example, that 80,000 miles first class award to from HNL to JFK on Hawaiian can also cost you 260,000 miles. Nevertheless, Hawaiian has non-stop service on this route and lie-flat seats in first class.
So, at 80,000 miles, this award between HNL and JFK is a STEAL. Everywhere else, though, Mileage Plan has HawaiianMiles Beat – especially when comparing itineraries from Hawai’i to Europe. They can’t even ticket you on a single itinerary for that, so you’re not protected on the Virgin side if you Hawaiian flight is really late. But even barring that, just look at the difference! 200,000 miles for a MAIN CABIN award ticket? That’s INSANE. That over double what you’d pay with Mileage Plan.
Hawaiian Debuts Moana 2 Jets, Final Thoughts
I think it’s great that Hawaiian debuts Moana 2 jets, and I hope I get to spot at least a couple of them before they’re removed from service sometime at the end of March 2025. However, the bigger news is that 500,000 HawaiianMiles are up for grabs – especially considering what you can do with those miles now.
Good luck to all who enter!
