Today’s post comes from Mrs. Jeffsetter! You’ve probably noticed that Amanda is becoming a more regular poster on the site (and is using her real name), so please do make her feel welcome with questions or comments! Here she is summarizing her first few days of retirement.
Be prepared to be wowed, I am doing another post.
As you probably know from previous posts, Jeff planned a great getaway for my first weekend of retirement. Having left his 9 to 5 job already, he knew that the first Monday with no work could bring withdrawal. Obviously, the solution to a lack of work is a trip. Yay me, Jeff is the best!
We started our trip up the coast on the last day of May, we touched on our first stop in our May recap post. As you know, we first stopped at the Point Arena Lighthouse. This was a nice easy stroll to stretch our legs.

After stretching our legs and crushing my phone we continued up the coast to our hotel. We stayed at the Heritage House Resort, which I reviewed last week.
Random Beauty
Well rested and ready to start the day, we stopped for breakfast at the Goodlife Cafe & Bakery. Great coffee!!
Full and ready to work off some calories, we stopped at a random trail and found this.

Fort Bragg – Glass Beach
I really wanted to see the glass beach. Did people tell me its over rated? Yes. Did I think it is overrated? A little, but sometimes you just want to take a few pictures of old trash that has turned into sea glass. The beach is small and the steps down are quite steep with no railing. I did not fall, success! The beach had a bit of a crowd as well, but a tolerable crowd. I think it is pretty cool.
Really, the whole beach is sea glass, not just a few specks.

The highlight of Fort Bragg was the walking trails along the coast. I don’t know how many pictures I took, or how many times that I looked at Jeff and said, “blech gross, why did we move here?”

After this coastline hike, we earned ourselves a beer. We stopped at the North Coast Brewing Co. Taproom and Grill. I chose little sampler (which Jeff gnome sipped), and Jeff got a half pint of Old Rasputin (which is my favorite from this brewery).
Jeff coined the phrase “gnome sips” for when I just want a taste of his beer, and then it is magically gone. Sort of like the underpants gnomes in South Park. Clearly, he does have a secret gnome because I would never steal his beer or food.

We headed back down towards the hotel. I recall making Jeff take a picture of something I thought was hilarious. He was annoyed. Now, I don’t recall what I saw that was so wonderful. If Jeff actually has the picture, I will have him post it here when he has time. Note, I don’t think he really took the picture.
Note from Jeff: This is the infamous picture of the skunk train. It’s not that funny.
We stopped to grab some snacks (cured meat, cheese, crackers, beef jerky) for dinner, and enjoyed it with a bottle of wine on our hotel deck.
A great start to retirement.
