The Royal Hawaiian Hotel, also known as The Pink Palace of the Pacific, is one of the first to open in Waikiki. It is an iconic property that has played host to many celebrities and dignitaries over the years. Opened on February 1, 1927, the property has endured wars, economic crisis, and the evolution of Waikiki, and today the Royal Hawaiian Hotel 90th birthday celebration kicks off.

Special Offers
To celebrate its 90th birthday, the Pink Palace will be holding a number events and offering specials throughout 2017. On the special offer side of things, beginning today through December 17, 2017, book with rate code plan ROYAL90 and receive:
- Welcome amenity consisting of a commemorative tin filled with items from the Royal Hawaiian Bakery
- $90 resort credit per stay
- Royal Hawaiian luggage strap or luggage tag

While intriguing, the 90th anniversary offer isn’t the property’s best offer at the moment. Use code TIMELESS and stay 4 nights, and you’ll receive a $200 resort credit. SPG member? Use code SPGGN355N and receive:
- Rates starting at $335/night
- Double Starpoints
- Every 5th night complimentary
- 35% dining discount
- 10% spa discount at the Abhasa Spa (Royal Hawaiian) and the Moana Lani Spa (Moana Surfrider)
- 35% discount of Avis car rentals
Special Events
The first special event happening at the Royal Hawaiian is sort of a never ending celebration: a new bakery!

Today, February 1, 2017, will be the grand opening of the Royal Hawaiian Bakery. Located on the Coconut Lanai, the bakery will offer the property’s famous banana bread, classic baked goods and desserts, and even custom made cakes. Open 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily, the bakery will even offer 4 hours of complimentary parking when spending $15 or more.
Another event happening in the near future is the Royal Hawaiian’s celebratory gala. Happening on March 3, 2017, tickets are available for $350 a person, and will benefit ALS Association Hawaii. The event will include a special, gourmet dinner, live entertainment, a silent auction, and more!
I don’t think any of the events or specials so far warrants a special trip to Hawaii, but if you’re already going to be on Oahu or staying at the Royal Hawaiian during this time, then maybe take advantage of an offer and/or check out an event.
