The Chase Sapphire Reserve was the most anticipated card to ever be released. And while things have calmed down since the card’s launch, it is still an incredibly popular card. Part of the reason for the card’s incredibly popularity is its amazing signup bonus. The bonus is so great that questions abound immediately about how long it would last. Unfortunately we now have an answer to that question: the Sapphire Reserve 100,000 bonus is ending soon.
When exactly is the Sapphire Reserve’s bonus ending? Wednesday, January 11, according to The Points Guy. That’s in just five days now. So if you’ve been thinking of getting this card, now is the time to get your application in. Unfortunately, if you’re like me and have opened five or more credit cards in the past 24 months, then you can’t get this card. There are work arounds, but they don’t always work.
Of course if you’re wealthy enough, you can always open a JP Morgan account and apply for the JP Morgan Reserve Visa Infinite. The card is virtually identical to the Sapphire Reserve in terms of benefits, rewards, fees, etc. It supposedly isn’t subject to the 5/24 rule, but if you’re wealthy enough to open a JP Morgan account, I do accept donations. ?

Anyway, even if you aren’t able to apply for the Sapphire Reserve, you can upgrade your Sapphire Preferred to it. This is exactly what I did. Yes, it means that I had to forfeit the bonus, but I wouldn’t fall out of the 5/24 in the near future anyway. And I do believe the card is worth keeping in your wallet for its standard benefits. It does earn 3x Ultimate Rewards points on dining + travel. Oh, and don’t forget all the other benefits like the discounts, Priority Pass Select membership, Luxury Hotels & Resorts Collection, etc.
Oh, and if you’re wondering, the Sapphire Reserve’s new signup bonus will be 50,000 points. That is half of the current bonus and the same as the Sapphire Preferred. So that begs the question, will the Sapphire Preferred’s signup bonus decrease too? Only time will tell.
