Cairns, Australia may be better known as the gateway to the great barrier reef. While the location was once a vast rainforest, in recent years it has become a place for tourism, with much of the forests being replaced with attractions, hotels and other infrastructure. The Blue Mountains are about an hour train ride outside of Sydney and are marked as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
