Hofbrauhaus in Berchtesgaden

Yesterday I reviewed the Intercontinental Berchtesgaden Resort, which has unfortunately changed ownership to Kempinski since my stay last month. While preparing this review, I went back and looked at some of the photos we took during our walk around town with Mrs. Jeffsetter, Geraldine and Rand.

We walked around the city for hours, took in a nice sunset and then decided to seek refreshments. What better place to visit than a brewery that was established over 500 years ago! The entrance to the brewery had just as much signage and paraphernalia as you'd expect at a bar in America, only everything seemed much classier. There was no need for neon or gimmicks, just labeling of what you could expect inside: bier.

While I will always be fond of a lighted Pabst Blue Ribbon or Old Style sign you see dotting the highways in the midwest, I will take the subtleties of a German Bräustübl any day.
