Marriott Hawaii Not Offering Points Discounts

Marriott’s latest award redemption promotion lets you save up to 40% off standard rates. But, it only applies to off-peak rates, so in reality, you’re only saving 10% on those rates. Still, that’s not bad! Unfortunately, Marriott Hawaii is not offering points discounts. Mostly.

40% off standard rates or 10% off off-peak rates sounds like a great deal, right? After all, that would, in theory, bring many Hawaii properties down enough in price to use your Marriott credit card certificates at. Unfortunately, though, NONE of Marriott’s Hawaii properties are participating in this promotion – even those offering off-peak rates.

Properties with Reduced Rates

Of the 37 Marriott hotels in Hawaii, just eight of them are offering some sort of discounted award redemption rates. Those properties include:

• The Royal Hawaiian Hotel (Cat 7) – 44,000 down from 45,000
• Sheraton Princess Kaiulani (Cat 5) – 26,5000 down from 27,000
• Sheraton Waikiki (Cat 7) – 44,000 down from 45,000
• Westin Moana Surfrider (Cat 7) – 44,000 down from 45,000
• The Westin Ka’anapali Ocean Resort Villas (Cat 7) – 44,000 down from 45,000
• Marriott Kauai’s Beach Club (Cat 6) – 45,000 down from 50,000
• The Westin Princeville Ocean Resort Villas (Cat 7) – 55,000 down from 60,000
• Waikoloa Beach Marriott Resort (Cat 6) – 45,000 down from 50,000

It’s worth noting that nearly all of the above properties with the exception of the Marriott Kauai’s Beach Club, The Westin Princeville, and the Waikoloa Beach Marriott Resort are offering off-peak rates at the moment.

Others Offering Off-Peak Rates

The thing that upsets me the most about this is the fact that more than half of Marriott Hawaii properties are currently offering off-peak award rates – many through mid-March. Aside from the above properties, those properties include;

• Waikiki Beach Marriott Resort & Spa (Cat 6) 36,000
• Sheraton Kauai Coconut Beach Resort (Cat 5) 27,000
• Ritz-Carlton Kapalua (Cat 8) 63,000
• Residence Inn Oahu Kapolei (Cat 6) 36,000
• Marriott’s Ko Olina Beach Club (Cat 6) 36,000
• Koloa Landing Resort at Poipu (Cat 7) 45,000
• Courtyard Oahu North Shore (Cat 6) 36,000
• Kauai Marriott Resort (Cat 6) 36,000
• Sheraton Maui Resort (Cat 7) 45,000
• The Westin Maui Resort & Spa (Cat 7) 45,000
• Ritz-Carlton Residence Waikiki Beach (Cat 8) 63,000

That’s 18 properties in-total offering off-peak rates – yet none of them are giving the additional 10%. Heck, some properties aren’t even offering award stays at all. During a pandemic. And, yes, they’re open and are charging cash rates.

Marriott Hawaii Not Offering Points Discounts, Final Thoughts

It is extremely disappointing that Marriott’s Hawaii properties aren’t participating in the current award stay promotion. This is especially true since, if they did, we’d have so many great certificate redemption options. But, I guess that’s kind of the point, right? The fact that so many properties are at the 36,000 points level right now, though, just makes it all the more disappointing. At the same time, however, if you are looking at redeeming points for stays in Hawaii, the rates are the cheapest I’ve seen in years. The cash rates too! But, that, of course, comes with a ton of caveats. For one, many of the hotels are only partially open – no or minimal on-property dining, limited access to pools and fitness rooms, etc. Not to mention the fact that Hawaii as a whole isn’t anywhere near to being back to normal.
