A new hotel coming to the Wailea Resort will open near the Residence Inn by Marriott Maui Wailea.
The Maui News reports that a new hotel is under development in the Wailea Resort. It’s developer, R. D. Olson Investments II LLC, previously built the Courtyard by Marriott Kahului Airport, as well as the Residence Inn by Marriott Maui Wailea.

Hotel Ike
According to the developer, this new hotel will be called Hotel Ike. However, no franchise agreement has made, though there’s no guarantee there even will be one. However, given that the developer has two Marriott brand properties on-island already, I think its safe to assume this new project will be one too. Another similarity this new property will have to the other two is size. Hotel Ike will be just four stories tall, featuring 110 guest rooms.
In fact, the whole development will occupy just three acres next to the Residence Inn by Marriott Maui Wailea. Unlike its neighboring sister property, though, Hotel Ike will not have in-unit kitchens. Instead, the property will be more “couples oriented.” However, the two building property will feature an outdoor pool, fitness center, business center, and lounge.
The developer does state that, despite the different focus, Hotel Ike will complement the Residence Inn. And, if all goes as planned, construction should begin by the summer of 2018. No opening date is available at this time.
New Hotel Coming to the Wailea Resort, Final Thoughts
Maui is probably the most expensive lodging market in Hawaii, so new developments are welcome news. But, I’m hoping Hotel Ike will be a Marriott like R.D. Olson’s last two projects on Maui. Only time will tell, though, and hopefully, more information will be released in the near future.
