If there were an award for worst travel blogger, I probably wouldn’t win. I’m not the worst, but I am not very consistent.
Now if there were a contest for being the most inconsistent travel blogger…
What were we talking about again?
Sorry, but I got distracted.
Literally.
I was distracted for the past several months from this blog, and I may stay distracted for several more. Who knows.
The past few months I have been posting photos from our travels, because that is all that I have had time to do.
As I was scanning Lightroom for a photo for today, I came across “Where is Jeffsetter?” scraped into some rocks on Maui and thought how appropriate?
Where the heck is Jeffsetter? Not just as a person, but as a traveler and blogger. Where the heck is Jeffsetter mentally, physically and psychologically?
I am at a Starbucks in Arizona. Scottsdale to be exact.
While my blog has gone to shite, I have never felt better about myself. My relationship with Mrs. Jeffsetter is better than ever. We have a great balance, understanding and mutual admiration.
Physically, the United States has taken to me like a hobbit takes to second breakfast. In other words I have eaten my way out of shape on my visit back to the United States. America: Brought to you by Sodium
The good news is that my salt-encrusted insides will be Carribean bound in two weeks. The bad news is that my beach body is more like the blerch.
So where am I going with this post? Nobody knows. I just thought I was due to post more than 20 words and a photograph.
One Way, Neverending
We gave up our apartment on July 5th. We have been living out of a suitcase since then. It has been amazing.
The longest I have gone without packing up everything I own? 3 weeks. Twice.
The shortest time? 1 day. We did this approximately 10 times. I lose exact count and you probably don’t care.
10 one night stands with hotels means 10 drives of shame. 10 cities we barely got to know, 10 hotels that we called home.
10 days that I had to find a new Internet connection code, only to be forgotten in the morning.
10 times that I was afraid to open my laptop or didn’t bother.
10 routines that were started and broken in the same breath.
10 task lists that were pushed aside in the name of enjoyment.
Being on the road full time is pretty fucking hard. But it’s also pretty. The world is an enormously beautiful place. It’s my addiction.
Where is Jeffsetter?
Jeff is in a good place as an Internet marketer, adjunct professor and husband. He has never been more focused, motivated and inspired. The world is his oyster, and the oysters out of Tomales Bay are his favorite.
Jeffsetter as a blog is an enigma. An afterthought, a work in progress. Unrealized potential. And I am afraid that it will remain that way forever.
You see, I love travel. I thought that I could turn my love of travel into a business. But turning travel into a business? The love dissipates quickly.
I love photography. I thought maybe I could turn that into a business. But turning photography into a business? The love dissipates just as quickly.
So I write when I want. It’s a hobby afterall.
I post photos when I want.
The rest of my time? I focus on my real business, which I love just as much.
And in this I have found balance. Travel blogging as a distraction. It is a hobby. It is secondary. That doesn’t make for a consistent or great blogger, but it makes me happy.
So thanks for sticking with me – both in this completely random post, and in my blogging journey. Here’s to many more inconsistent and incoherent years!
I feel your approach better approximates what travel should be. Albeit sporadic, I prefer it to Diamond breakfast reviews and pictures of the bathroom and nightstands.
Well put. When blogging interferes with travel it is time to prioritize. Still you should write more because your perspective is entertaining.
Appreciate that – really helps me stay motivated!
This post really spoke to me. I love your outlook on life, travel, and blogging. All three should be fun! Glad I discovered your blog today! Subscribing.
Nice to meet you too!
